Oscar Wilde (Dublin, 1854 - Paris, 1900), Prominent Irish writer and playwright of the nineteenth century. His theatrical works reflected the society of the time. With the publication of the collection of short stories, The Happy Prince (1888), his extraordinary literary career began. In 1891, he published his only novel The Picture of Dorian Gray which examines the human conditionHe was imprisoned for two years for being homosexual which was considered a crime at the time. When released, he discovered that no one would now publish or interpret his work. After his death, a London theatre dared to interpret his work, and thus his name began to reappear publicly. Wilde was an original and gifted writer.
