This publishing house was founded in 1969 by Beatriz de Moura and Óscar Tusquets, the brother of the fellow publisher Esther Tusquets. It was founded with the goal of giving voice to the literary avant-gardes of the 20th century and Spanish and Latin American fiction writers, both new and classic, under the literary direction of Beatriz de Moura.
Later, it expanded its range of authors and works with translations. For more than 40 years, it has developed a web of authors, novels, stories, collected letters, essays, architecture and art books, translations, collections and prizes, which has expanded to Latin America and consolidated its independence. It has also devoted part of its output to children’s books and works on food and art and architecture. In 2012, it joined Planeta Corporación but kept its own imprint, so it adds to Planeta’s catalogue and takes advantage of its distribution and dissemination channels.
Tusquets Editores has created prizes such as La Sonrisa Vertical for erotic literature, the Premio Comillas for history, biography and memoirs, and the Premio Tusquets Editores for novels.
It has published both Spanish authors and foreign authors in Spanish.
Its extensive output is organised into 22 collections, including Andanzas, La Sonrisa Vertical, Marginales and Cuadernos Ínfimos.
The publisher’s most emblematic works are fiction and stories.
