Balmes, Jaume, 1810-1848

Jaume Llucià Balmes i Urpià (Vic, 1810 – Vic, 1848). Was a Catalan philosopher, theologist and catholic priest. Was one of the most widely read philosopher both nationally and internationally. His most famous work is El criterio (1845). He alternated his philosophical writings with politicians, namely that represents his work as proper catholic though to the problems of his time.

Some of his works: Observaciones sobre los bienes del clero(1840), La civilización (1841), El protestantismo comparado con el catolicismo en sus relaciones con la civilización europea(1842-44), Conversa d’un pagès de la muntanya sobre lo papa(1842),  Cartes a un escèptic en matèria de religió  (1846).
