The publications service of Joventut Obrera Cristiana founded Editorial Nova Terra in 1958 with the goal of bringing the faith to the working classes. It started with an ideological foundation grounded upon socialist and progressive Christianity. Josep Castaño, Josep Artigal, Joan Carrera and Lleonard Ramírez created this imprint with Josep Verdura and Lleonard Ramírez as the literary directors.
With these ideological foundations, its output was divided into three lines: one that encompassed unions, politics and literature; another that spanned religious and theological topics; and a third one devoted to education and everything related to the world of education.
Economic hardships, the pressures of censorship and ideological discrepancies led Nova Terra to have a tumultuous existence, and in 1979 it was absorbed by the Hogar del Libro.
The most prominent authors published by this imprint clearly reflect Nova Terra’s ideology and its text selection criteria.
The imprint grouped its publications into 45 collections, including El Hombre Nuevo, Síntesis, El Mundo y los Hombres, Navidad, Trabajo y Sociedad, Tiempo de Concilio and Noves Actituds.
