Giner, Salvador, 1934-

Salvador Giner i de San Julián (Barcelona, 1934-) is a Catalan sociologist with a long professional career. M.A., PhD, University of Chicago. He completed his postgraduate study at the University of Cologne, Germany and was a Full Professor of Sociology at the University of Barcelona (1989-2004) and various British universities. In 1995, he was awarded the Creu de Sant Jordi (Saint George's Cross) by the Generalitat of Catalonia. He chaired the Institut d'Estudis Catalans (Institute of Catalan Studies) between 2005 and 2013. He founded and directed the Institut d’Estudis Socials Avançats (Institute of Advanced Social Studies) (CSIC) and edited the Enciclopèdia CatalanaSociologia and Historia del pensamiento social, are two of his most published works.
