Triadú, Joan, 1921-2010

Joan Triadú i Font (Ribes de Freser, 1921 - Barcelona, 2010) was a writer, teacher and literary critic. He studied Classical Philology at the University of Barcelona and organised the first Catalan classes during the post-war period. Triadú was one of the founders of the magazine, Ariel, where he began his career as a literary critic. He taught Catalan at the University of Liverpool and was a member of various cultural associations and institutions. He was particularly interested in the recovery of the historical memory of Catalan language and culture. He was awarded the Creu de Sant Jordi (Saint George's Cross) in 1982 and the Premi d'Honor de les Lletres Catalanes in 1992.
