Bofill i Mates, Jaume, 1878-1933

Jaume Bofill i Mates was born in Olot in 1878 and died in Barcelona in 1933. Poet, politician and journalist. As a politician, he was part of the government of the Commonwealth of Catalonia in 1919 and was member of the Spanish Parliament for the Lliga (League) between 1931 and 1932, after having left Acció Catalana (Catalan Action), the party he founded in 1922. At the same time, he worked as a journalist at La Publicitat, where he published literary articles. However, he was best known as a poet. Author of several books of poetry, under his pen name, Guerau de Liost, he became one of the most iconic, relevant and critical poets of the Noucentisme movement.

The Biblioteca de Catalunya holds his personal papers which include correspondence, literary works, speeches, political brochures and press clippings.
