From the library’s gothic balcony one can have a point of view on the site’s courtyard. The carrer de l’Hospital and the carrer del Carme both have accesses to the former hospital’s gardens - planted with orange trees, acacias and a jacaranda – that lead to the entrance of the Escola Massana (school of fine arts), the 16th century well and fountain, and the baroque cross (17th century, work of Bernat Vilar).
One can also see the monumental steps, adorned with a statue of Saint Roch, that lead to the holding of the Biblioteca de Catalunya, and, just next to it, the gorgeous 16th century grille that protected the former hospital’s pharmacy. Symmetrically facing the Saint Roch stairway is the Caritat stairway.
