Pla Pallejà, Jaume, 1914-1995

Jaume Pla i Pallejà was born in Rubí in 1914 and he died in Barcelona 1995. An engraver, illustrator and painter, he had his first exhibition in 1932 in Terrassa and he was also an art critic for the newspaper, El Dia, also in Terrassa. After the Civil War he went into exile in France, he was imprisoned in concentration camps in Northern Catalonia and subsequently returned in secret to Catalonia, where in 1945 he founded Edicions de la Rosa Vera with Victor Maria d'Imbert. Author of several books on engraving techniques, he was an important engraver and promoter of his technique. Among other awards, he received the Creu de Sant Jordi (Saint George's Cross) and the Premi Ciutat de Barcelona (Barcelona City Award) in 1965.

The Biblioteca de Catalunya holds his personal papers, which contain mainly artwork. The MNAC also holds some of Jaume Pla's works.
