Helena Valentí i Petit (Barcelona, 1940-1990). Novelist and translator.

Daughter of the linguist Eduard Valentí i Fiol, she studied Romance Studies at the Universitat de Barcelona and received her doctorate at the University of Cambridge. She worked as a university professor in the United Kingdom. Later, she combined the translation of works by contemporary authors such as Doris Lessing, Virginia Woolf or Katherine Mansfield, with her own narrative in an unconventional style that includes novels and short stories. For a few years she was the partner of Gabriel Ferrater i Soler.

The Biblioteca de Catalunya holds her personal papers, containing correspondence, literary pieces, photographs and press releases; includes letters, poems and other documents about Gabriel Ferrater. Her father’s collection was donated too.
