Teixidor, Emili, 1933-2012

Emili Teixidor i Viladecàs (Roda de Ter, 1933- Barcelona, 2012) is considered one of the modern classic writers of Catalan children´s and young adult literature. He began writing in the late sixties, a time when there was a certain lack of literature for children and young adults. He met Miquel Martí i Pol and collaborated on various journalistic publications such as El País and Diari de Barcelona. His work has been translated into several languages. Among his titles include L’ocell de foc aimed at young audiences and Pa negre, for adult audiences, adapted for cinema and the Premio Nacional de Literatura. In 1992 he was awarded the Creu de Sant Jordi (Saint George's Cross) by the Generalitat of Catalonia.
