Josep Maria de Sagarra i de Castellarnau (Barcelona, 1894- 1961). One of the most famous writers of Catalan literature of the twentieth century. He was dedicated to several genres: poetry, novels, theatre, journalism and translation. Sagarra was a prominent member of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans (Institute of Catalan Studies) and the Reial Acadèmia de Bones Lletres (Royal Academy of Fine Arts) and his works were very popular. He translated almost all the works of William Shakespeare and other classics of European literature including The Divine Comedy, considered one of the best translations from Italian. Sagarra authored a vast amount of literature and he was recognised with numerous awards.
