A painter, journalist and writer, Santiago Rusiñol i Prats (Barcelona, 1861- Aranjuez, 1931), was one of the leaders of Modernism. His collection of work, consisting of thousands of pieces, was recognised in France where he was awarded the title sociétaire by the Paris Salon. During the twenties and thirties he enjoyed great recognition nationally, in spite of criticism he received mainly from Eugeni d'Ors. Rusiñol had a long and solid friendship with the Catalan artist Ramon Casas.
