Janés i Olivé, Josep, 1913-1959

Josep Janés i Olivé (L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, 1913 - Els Monjos, 1959) was a Catalan poet and publisher. He founded the magazine, Bandera, in 1930 and edited newspapers, El Diari Mercantil and Avui-Diari de Catalunya until 1933. A year later, he won the Flor Natural (natural flower) prize at the Floral Games in Barcelona for his poem, "Tu". In 1940, he founded the publishers, Josep Janés which had considerable success. He died in an accident in 1959 and his collection was acquired by Germán Plaza who founded the publishers, Plaza & Janés. His personal papers have been held in the Arxiu Nacional de Catalunya (National Archive of Catalonia) since 1990.
