Pere Bosch i Gimpera (Barcelona, 1891 - Mexico, 1974). Pre-historian and archaeologist. He studied Law and Literature at the University of Barcelona, where he specialised in Greek philology. In Germany he trained as a pre-historian and reimagined peninsular and Catalan pre-history. From the beginning, he was a strong supporter of the use of Catalan in scientific publications. Among many other positions, he was director of the excavations department of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans (Institute of Catalan Studies), professor at Estudis Universitaris Catalans, Full Professor of Ancient and Medieval History at the University of Barcelona and one of the founders of the Associació Catalana d’Antropologia, Etnografia i Prehistòria (Catalan Association of Anthropology, Ethnography and Pre-history).
After the Civil War, having first passed through several countries, he went into exile in Mexico where he was a professor at the National Autonomous University and the National School of Anthropology. For a few years he was head of the UNESCO Division of Philosophy and Humanities.
