Boix i Selva, Josep Maria, 1914-1996

Josep Maria Boix i Selva (Barcelona, 1914- Girona, 1996) was a poet, translator, professor and literary editor at the publishers, Vergara. Author of various collections of poetry influenced by Noucentisme and Joan Maragall, he translated Milton's Paradise Lost which received unanimous praise from all critics. Together with Salvador Espriu, Bartomeu Rosselló-Pòrcel, Joan Vinyoli, Agustí Bartra and Joan Teixidor, he was one of the Generation of '36. At Vergara he directed the Isard collection of literature from classic and contemporary authors. Awards he received include the Carles Riba award (1971) and the López Pico award (1976).

The Biblioteca de Catalunya holds his personal papers which include private correspondence and correspondence from the publishers, press clippings, as well as manuscripts of Catalan authors.
