Miquel Batllori i Munné (Barcelona, 1901-Sant Cugat del Vallès, 2003). Doctor of History and Graduate in Law, Philosophy and Theology. He joined the Society of Jesus where he was ordained as a priest in 1940. He was a professor of Medieval History at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and director of the Historical Institute of the Society of Jesus, also in Rome. His career was recognised with several awards, including the Premi Lletra d'Or (1980), the Creu de Sant Jordi (Saint George's Cross) (1982) and the Medalla d'Or of the Generalitat of Catalonia (1985). He was also an honorary doctor (doctor honoris causa) of the universities of Barcelona and the Balearic Islands. His intellectual legacy contains more than two hundred titles, the result of research on the work of Ramon Llull and Arnau de Vilanova, Humanism and the Renaissance, mainly.
