Maria Barbal i Farré was born in Tremp in 1949. Novelist and teacher. Her work portrays the rural scenes of Pallars, where she lived as a child. Author of a dozen novels, collections of short stories and children's stories, she has won several awards, including the Prudenci Bertrana prize, the Joan Crexells award and the Joaquim Ruyra award, among others.
The Biblioteca de Catalunya holds her personal papers which include original and draft copies of her works.
