Antoni Badia i Margarit (Barcelona, 1920-2014) was awarded a degree in Romance Languages in 1943. He was a professor of Historical Spanish Grammar (1948-1977) and Historical Catalan Grammar (1977-1986) at the University of Barcelona, where he was Vice-Chancellor between 1978 and 1986.
He is a widely recognised academic. He was a member of such institutions as the Institut d'Estudis Catalans (Institute of Catalan Studies) and the Reial Acadèmia de Bones Lletres de Barcelona (Barcelona Royal Academy of Fine Arts). He was president of the Associació Internacional de Llengua i Literatura Catalanes (International Association of Catalan Language and Literature) between 1973 and 1976. In 2003, he was awarded the Premi d'Honor de les Lletres Catalanes.
His archive and library are preserved in the Biblioteca de Catalunya.
