History
Section created in 1995 by the Decree 300/1995 of the structure of the Biblioteca de Catalunya. It is heiress of the old section of Music created in 1917. It is part of Bibliographic Unit.
Collections
It gathers manuscripts and printed works of musical literature and treaties, and scores by a large group of authors from different periods, styles and backgrounds. Among the documents, it has to be done an special mention to manuscripts with Aquitaine and Catalan notation from 10th century, liturgical manuscripts from 13th to 18th centuries, polyphony of Ars Antiqua and Ars Nova, compositions from Catalan baroque, oratories, dances and original works by Catalan authors from 19th and 20th centuries
It also includes personal papers of compositors, musicologists or performers, such as Isaac Albéniz, Conxita Badia, Xavier Benguerel, Manuel Blancafort, Robert Gerhard, Enric Granados, Lamote de Grignon, Joaquim Homs, Frederic Mompou i Enric Morera, Anna Ricci and Amadeu Vives, among others.
