Jaume Vicens Vives (Girona, 1910-Lyon, 1960) was a Catalan historian, professor and writer. He was a fresh-thinker in historiography and his interpretation of history had a great influence in politics. His research on the medieval period and especially on the Crown of Aragon is highly regarded in academic circles, notably Ferran II i la ciutat de Barcelona, 1479-1516. His studies also focused contemporary history and the defence of Catalan values. His book, Notícia de Catalunya (1954), caused controversy at the time and remains a masterpiece today.
