Romeu i Figueras, Josep, 1917-2004

Josep Romeu i Figueras (Òdena, 1917- Barcelona, 2004) was a Catalan poet and literary critic. He graduated in Hispanic Philology and was awarded Doctor of Letters by the Estudis Universitaris Catalans. Among others, Romeo was the founder of the cultural group Anabis, the Societat Catalana d'Estudis Històrics (Catalan Society for Historical Studies), the Centre d'Estudis Comarcals d'Igualada (Igualada Regional Studies Centre) as well as the magazine, Ariel. His articles were published in several magazines such as Serra d'Or and Revista de Catalunya. He was an honorary member of the Associació d’Escriptors en Llengua Catalana (Association of Writers in Catalan) and in 1993 he received the Creu de Sant Jordi (Saint George's Cross).
