Benet, Rafael, 1889-1979

Rafael Benet i Vancells (Terrassa, 1889 - Barcelona, 1979). Catalan art critic, painter and art historian. He studied under his uncle, Joaquim Vancells, and Francesc Galí. He was a member of the Agrupació Courbet and Les Arts i els Artistes and he was President of the Cercle Artístic de Sant Lluc (Saint Luke Artistic Circle). As a writer, he published biographies of other artists, monographs on various artistic trends and he was an art critic for a number of Catalan newspapers.
